I packed in my salaried job also at age 40 and decided to go self employed, have never looked back, : )

I jumped off the proverbial bridge at 42, no parachute, no soft landing if I failed. I didn’t fail and maybe someday I’ll retire with a nice pension. Good luck!

Yeah do it - I last had an 'ungrateful boss' when I was 39, same 'job' but different field since. Interesting... and I can tell the 'boss' what I think of him any time, without consequences!!
